I cut out a few hundred words from the outline last night. A couple of scenes simply weren't doing it for me, so they had to go. As soon as I did that, I felt better about the outline, so that tells me I made the right choice.
That's the advantage of outlining. Instead of cutting out thousands of words of first-draft prose, I cut out a few hundred words of outline. Less wasted work. I can do all the major surgery now while it's less expensive than doing it later.
It still doesn't feel quite right, though. I'll have to put some more thought into it. It might be March before I start the first draft.
